 *1. NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE

The castle combines elements from several different architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, and Byzantine, to reflect the idealized vision of royalty and art held by King Ludwig . However, Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany may be best known as the inspiration behind Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle. A must do, but be prepared! So if you want to skip the big crowds try to avoid going in July or August. From April to October there are daily boat tours that allow you to cross the entire lake and visit both Saint Bartholomeus and lake Obersee.

*3. EIBSEE LAKE

During a trip to Germany, we believe it would be a shame to miss out on the Eibsee lake. Personally, the Bavarian Alps are our favorite place in all of Germany, and we return almost every year, so we must say, it's absolutely worth it. Due to its unique position at the foot of the Zugspitze and its clear, emerald-green shimmering water, the lake Eibsee is known as one of the most beautiful.Created by the fall of gigantic rock during the last Ice Age, Eibsee is fairly considered one of the most beautiful and purest lakes in the Bavarian Alps. The crystal clear lake is 48 hectares large and up to 34 meters deep. It belongs to the municipality of Grainau and is privately owned by the Eibsee Hotel. In 1884, August Terne bought the lake and made it an attractive destination for summer visitors.The best time of year to visit Lake Eibsee for recreational activities is summer (mid/late June – mid-September), when the water temperature is 17- 22°c. The walk around Lake Eibsee is just over 7 km and will take anywhere between 1:30 – 2:15 hours depending on your pace. It is a fairly easy walk looping around the whole lake. However, there will be more or less elevation gain depending on which direction you walk in. It has a length of 2450 m and a width of 850m with a depth up to 32,5 m. In summer the water temperature is about 20 to 22 degrees Celsius but in spring and autumn, it's much colder. It's located in the Bavarian Alps, right at the foot of the Zugspitze, the tallest peak in Germany. May to September is fishing season at the Eibsee. Lake trout, whitefish, tench, and various whitefish species look forward to your catch of the day.The Eibsee lies at the foot of the Zugspitze at an altitude of 1000 m and is beautiful all year round. The lake is 2.39 km long, 1.09 km wide and has a depth of 35 m (depending on water level) and along its north side has seven islands. The Eibsee is caused by a huge landslide. Not be wrong the Eibsee is one of the most beautiful and cleanest lakes in Upper Bavaria. This leaves every couple of hours and takes 30-40 minutes to reach the lake. Alternatively, you can take the cogwheel train from Garmisch-Partenkirche to Grainau and then walk 4 km to the lake.

*4. AARE GORGE

The place is just amazing, a natural wonder. A long walk along the gorge with rushing waters to the far end, and then retrace your steps back. The visitor centre is attractive and with much to recommend it - it has toilets and a restaurant. You can take a train from Interlaken Ost to Aareschlucht Ost via Meiringen in around 1h 5m. Alternatively, Swiss PostAuto operates a vehicle from Interlaken, Kursaal to Lammi twice a week. Tickets cost CHF 4,7 and the journey takes 1h 5m. A decisive factor for the tradition of Aare swimming is the water purity, which is exceptional by global standards. The Aare Gorge is very easy and convenient to reach by public transport, with direct connections running every hour from Interlaken and Lucerne. From Meiringen station, you can get to the Aare Gorge easily via the Meiringen,Innertkirchen Railway via the following stops Alpbach and Aareschlucht Ost.Aare Gorge is open to the public between April to November. The hike through the entire Aare Gorge takes approx. 45 minutes. Visitors can travel back via a public hiking trail over the 'Lammi' pass. This signposted hike takes about one hour. Discover this 6.8-mile loop trail near Meiringen, Bern. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 30 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. Dogs are welcome in the Aare gorge on a short leash and free of charge. Please note that the rules of public transport apply on our partner railways, respectively the instructions on site.
