Cool days; we strongly recommend that you wear carry warm layers top and bottom ,and full finger gloves. While significant snowfall is more common in the surrounding mountain ranges, occasional snow showers can dust the township of Lake Tekapo itself, adding to its enchanting winter ambiance. two chiefs who were leaving the lake under cover of darkness when they were caught out by the rising sun and became the two pillars now marking the entrance to the Lindis Pass. Founded as a gold mining town back in the gold-rush days, Hokitika is famous for its pounamu (greenstone), whitebait, it's mining history, and it's sparsely populated wild scenery. Everybody's highlight destination, the Hokitika Gorge Walk offers the West Coast's easiest, most scenically satisfying experience, accessible right through breathtakingly vibrant turquoise waters, surrounded by dense native bush, this gorge is a must-visit for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. The water of Hokitika Gorge appears a mesmerising shade of turquoise blue due to the presence of glacial flour in the water. Glacial flour is a fine, silt-like sediment that is created by the grinding of rocks by glaciers. Hokitika has a friendly, comfortable place for you to stay and many are in stunning locations. the unmatched work-life balance Hokitika offers is a major drawcard for people looking for a better quality of life. The West Coast Tree Top Walk takes you on an incredible 450-metre-long walkway that rises 27 metres into the forest canopy. The milky turquoise water of the Hokitika Gorge is tantalizing, and plenty of people do swim, but it should only be done with caution there are hidden rocks and river currents. After the second swing bridge the trail leads to a small river beach. The Hokitika urban area, as defined by Statistics New Zealand, covers 11.78 km2 (4.55 sq mi) and is coterminous with the Hokitika statistical area. Photo stop while crossing the 90 metre suspension bridge over the Hokitika Gorge. Queenstown is known for its tourism businesses, especially adventure and ski tourism. Rental costs in the town centre are particularly high.There is so much to do in and around Queenstown that 5 to 6 days would be ideal, however 3 days is a good amount of time to get a feel for the town.
